Case study-02

Have been looking at creating a little autumn character animation... The idea is to create a 3D animation but as Joanna Lurie has with the silence beneath the bark - I want it to look artistic and 2D with delicate details/ painted background, hand drawn look. I will design the backdrop scenery and textures and put it all together in 3D max.

TIME PROJECT - new thoughts

I have been looking at how myths and movies have been re-made using modern technology and how I could create a movie trailer for an imaginary film about the Greek legend of the Minotaur.

Then I picked up the book Chaos and watched the movie 'the butterfly effect' and have been inspired to take the project in a new direction.

The plan is to create a simple illustrated animation, a leaf or similar small object on a journey and how the path is changed by random events such as rain, water, a spiders web... etc.
The animation starts off as a black and white old movie and ends with full colour and special effects to bring it through time - this reflects how technology has changed over time from past to present day.

D & AD 2011

Yay!!! just about managed to upload my concept design and short animation for a new Disney character as part of a brief for this years D & AD competition... in the end I had to stick with my strengths and hand draw the animation... didn't have a lot - about 18 seconds but Im quite proud of the attempt.

Storyboard-01- digital culture

Digital Culture - Freud

Ok, for digital culture I've been reading about the Freud theories and one of his theories that jumped out at me was his idea that although we all have the inbuilt desire to reproduce and that is our destiny, we also have an ultimate goal and that is what Freud called the 'death drive' that our ultimate goal is actually to die.

I began to think about how I might visually illustrate/ animate this and came up with a little robot character who believes his destiny is to re-create himself. He spends his short life building a new robot in his image... only to realise that the final piece to be put in place must be his gift of life, taken from himself and ending his own - that is his mission.
