3D Work

07/10/11 Voxel Sculpting - Been looking at 3D coat which allows you to sculpt without worrying about topology.

05/10/11 MudBox FemaleHad a go at modelling a female head and played around with some of the paint tools.

02/10/11 MudBox - Tree stump Latest simple modelling test of a tree stump.

Time project - Created the basic model for my 3D animation character.. here is a rough test with materials and spline legs.  I also added some simple painted trees to see how the effect would work as a back drop.

TIME project - Regarding the painted characters for 3d... realised I needed a wash of watercolour and not individually painted character parts to animate as when I switch the parts to animate the character, the body will flash with different colours... I need one wash to use for all of the parts and create a map for the skin!

Managed to get a ragdoll animation completed! As usual I experienced the usual set backs but got through it with a glass of wine and a late night! woohoo

28/-2/11  Tracking lesson in aftereffects... a little hinge butterfly!

Feeling a lot more confident at having a go in max and after effects now that Im more familiar with the interface and can find things. I think it would really help if I did at least a couple of online tutorials a week. Here is one I did in max for a simple exploding text animation.

Practicing with some material tutorials this week... here is my attempt at chrome and glowing spheres!

08/01/11
Finding it difficult to uvw map my alien as a first project... his shape and eyes are proving difficult and at this rate Im not going to get any further, so Ive decided to use my kung fu panda model 'that I made earlier' and follow the online texture tutorial for it.

So I did and over two days managed to grasp the idea behind creating and adding texture. Couldn't find any tutorials that helped with the actual painting of the texture in photoshop. Took a couple of attempts to get it right and Im sure I took the long way around. Will post a link if I find one for beginers... Here's my first attempt and I have to admit, he is the ugliest version Ive seen yet! I got the mirror wrong also in the edit UVW map in max and so painted the legs and feet with the wrong colours... hence my panda wears a nappy and leg warmers. :/

 22/12/10

The Alien model I designed is now just about completed! He took a while but I quite enjoyed it. Cant wait to animate him...

Mapping tutorial

Completed my first mapping tutorial of simple shape in prep for the alien figure Ive modelled...

worked fine! Now for the ogre...

29/11/10

Progress being made with my 3d book for personal taxonomy / folksonomy project. Working on page turning during studio time today in 3D max. Was taken through the step by step process with tutor to build the book and pages... a lot to remember but looks so simple if you know what your doing. Anyway, quite pleased with the result so far, just need to add the right content and tweek some details. I can then continue with improvements over more time to get it looking even better but the basics are there! Build so far consists of 4 pages (planes) with bend and twist added - bitmap material (used some angel designs I have temporarily just to get the idea for content of the pages), cover / binding (with added material and texture), camera and lights.
Discussed MORPH TARGET - to create the pages... will use for mouth lip sync later.

11/11/10 Ok the foot is going well... the collapse tool was very useful for the toe, I haven't used that one before! Neatly finished off the front of the foot. Head next!

Here's where I'm at to date. Working on the foot and head now and its a bit tricky but as you can see its getting there so quite pleased with myself.

So here is the template (side view) that I have drawn for the alien character that I'm going to build using 3D max.
